Working with Me

A helping hand towards optimal health

My Approach to Counselling

If you are facing long-term emotional distress or trauma due to relationship wounds, or if you are a parent or child in the adoption process, I may be able to help. Please do not hesitate to contact me for more information.

I use person-centred and relational approaches in my work with clients, both short-term and long-term, which means that the focus of our work is on you and your needs. You are in control of the issues we discuss and the pace of our work together. I believe that you have the answers within you to find ways to cope with your emotions and strive towards independence. My role is to listen with empathy and compassion and offer a fresh, objective perspective on your feelings and emotions.

To ensure that I provide the best service possible for my clients, I have received training in a range of approaches, including Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP), Rewind Therapy, Somatic Trauma Therapy, and neurodiversity. These approaches allow me to tailor my approach to your individual needs and goals.

My Approaches

Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy

DDP is an attachment-based form of psychotherapy that helps children who have suffered developmental trauma in their lives. I work with both the parent and the child to create or rebuild a strong and healthy relationship and help the child feel comfortable with "nurturing" parenting.

Rewind Therapy

Rewind therapy is a short-term intervention for a single, incident trauma. For many people with PTSD, rewind therapy is a valuable and comfortable solution. This can help you to understand and manage your trauma and your individual responses. Rewind trauma therapy formed by David Muss was developed in the early 1990’s. It involves reviewing and revisiting trauma in a controlled way, where you can expose yourself to memories without connecting with the emotional impact. This means you expose yourself to memories without connecting with the emotional trauma. Through visualisation, together we will revisit traumatic memories, where you will have the opportunity to fast forward and rewind events to help you disconnect from the negative emotions involved, and begin to feel more positive and relieved of the symptoms of your traumatic events.

Somatic Trauma Interventions

This is a very structured approach to trauma treatment developed by Babette Rothschild, whom I received personal training from. It focuses on the impact of trauma on the body's nervous system. This therapy consists of three stages: Stabilization, Trauma Processing, and Integration. The aim is to help individuals recognize and manage physical sensations, leading to increased independence and relief from their trauma symptoms.

Supporting Neurodivergent Clients and their carers

I possess extensive experience in supporting neurodivergent adults and children, including those with Autism, SPD, ADD, PDA, and ADHD. I have worked in both the NHS and specialist school provisions, where I have honed my skills in supporting neurodiverse individuals. Additionally, my commitment to professionals, school staff and parents, is to assist in maintaining their health and well-being, as I understand the complexities of supporting young people who have SEMH presentations.

Initial consultation

Before we begin working together, I offer a free initial 30-minute telephone consultation to learn more about you, your background, and your current difficulties. This is also an opportunity for you to ask me any questions about the counselling and psychotherapy process and to determine if we are a good fit.

How I Work

Online

I offer counselling services online using the Zoom platform or an alternative encrypted videocall platform that I have membership to. This allows you to access counselling from the comfort and privacy of your own home or safe space, without the need to worry about transportation, parking, or mobility issues. It also offers greater confidentiality, as you do not need to be seen attending a counselling setting or explain to others about taking time away for an appointment.

Telephone

In addition to online counselling, I also offer telephone counselling appointments. Some clients may prefer this option, as it can feel safer and more comfortable early on in our work together until a strong therapeutic relationship has been established. Telephone counselling can also be a steppingstone to progress into online or in-person sessions, although this is not necessary. If you are hesitant to share sensitive experiences or feel overwhelmed at the thought of face-to-face sessions, telephone counselling may be an option for you.

Face-to-face

I offer a limited number of face-to-face therapy sessions in my private practice located in Great Sankey, Warrington, Cheshire. Convenient street parking is available nearby.
